FURMAN TO INDUCT FIVE
INTO ATHLETICS HALL-OF-FAME

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A pair of football standouts, one of the school¹s greatest cross country runners and softball performers, and a loyal benefactor have been elected for induction into the Furman Athletics Hall-of-Fame, director of the Paladin Club Ken Pettus has announced.

All-Southern Conference end Ray Siminski '59, All-America guard Eric Walter '91, two-time conference cross country champion Cate Pichon '93, and softball catcher Julie Glasser-Stebbins '97 will be enshrined into the hall-of-fame, along with honorary inductee and longtime athletics benefactor Lucius Weeks '54.

Induction ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14 at 5:00 in Timmons Arena prior to the Paladins' home football game against Elon. Tickets to the dinner and ceremony can be purchased by calling the Paladin Club at (864) 294-3469.

Two-time team Most Valulable Player... two-time All South Region selection... three-time All Southern Conference Tournament Team... Four-time Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll member... 1997 Edna Hartness Female Athlete of the Year... 1997 Furman Student Athlete Achievement Award winner... holds school record for plate appearances (792), at bats (695), runs (158), hits (266) and home runs (25)... ranked second in RBI (136), doubles (58), triples (19), walks (89) and batting average (.398)... also ranks fifth in total putouts (893).

CATE PICHON '93 ‹ Cross Country/Track & Field (1990-93)...six-time All-Southern Conference honoree who earned 1991 Furman Female Athlete of the Year honors...was a two-time All-Southern Conference Cross Country selection...won the SoCon individual cross country title in 1990 and '91... in 1991 became the first woman in school history and second the Southern Conference to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, where she took 40th with a time of 17:37... named Most Outstanding Performer at 1991 SoCon Indoor Championship and 1990 SoCon Cross Country Championship... holds the school record in the 5000m indoor run (16:51.72).

RAY SIMINSKI '59 ‹ Football (1955-56)...end...three-year letterman and two-year starter...earned first team All-Southern Conference and All-South Carolina honors in 1958 after leading the league in receiving (35 rec., 568 yards, 5 TDs)...receiving mark ranks as 10th best in school history...played two years with Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

ERIC WALTER '91 ‹ Football (1988-91)...offensive guard...four-year letterman...three-year starter...two-time All-Southern Conference first team selection (1990 & '91)...first team Kodak All-American and second team Associated Press All-American (1991)...served as co-captain of 1991 squad...two time GTE Academic All-American (1990 & '91)...NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship recipient...served as a part-time starter on Furman's 1998 Southern Conference championship and NCAA I-AA national championship team that posted a school best 13-2 record...started on Furman's 1989 & '90 conference championship squads...in three full seasons as a starter helped Paladins register a 28-10 record...Furman's four-year record during his career was 41-12...named Furman's Most Valuable Freshman in 1988...two-time recipient of Furman's Best Blocker Award (1990 & '91) and was named team's Best Offensive Lineman in 1991....holds Furman's single season and highest career blocking grades.
