FURMAN'S LOUIS IVORY NAMED
SOCON PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

GREENVILLE -- Furman tailback Louis Ivory has been named Southern Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week for his performance Saturday in the nationally sixth-ranked Paladins' 38-14 win over Western Carolina.

Ivory, a product of Fort Valley, Ga., rushed 17 times for 187 yards and three touchdowns and scored on runs of 65, 25, and 14 yards in leading Furman to its fifth straight win of the 2000 season.

Ivory has rushed for 100 yards in eight straight contests and has 907 yards and nine touchdowns through five games this year. He needs 93 yards in Furman's next game to become the quickest player in Furman history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.

Furman, now 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in Southern Conference play, takes on nationally seventh-ranked Appalachian State this Saturday in Boone. N.C. The game will be televised live by Fox Sports South beginning at Noon.
