FURMAN'S BOUTON NAMED NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK;
MARSHALL LANDS SOUTHERN CONFERENCE FRESHMAN-OF-THE-WEEK HONORS

GREENVILLE -- Furman junior linebacker Will Bouton has been named national defensive player-of-the-week by The Sports Network (TSN), and Paladin placekicker Danny Marshall has been honored by the Southern Conference as freshman-of-the-week for their respective performances in the Paladins' 27-18 win over Wofford on Saturday.

Bouton, a product of Greenville High School who also reaped conference defensive player-of-the-week accolades, recorded a career high 19 tackles, a tackle-for-loss, and a pass deflection to key a strong Paladin defensive effort against Wofford. His deflected pass was intercepted by teammate Shelvis Smith and returned 22 yards to set up a touchdown. Bouton later recorded key tackles on a pair of Terrier second half scoring threats inside the Furman 20 that netted only three points.

Marshall accounted for nine of Furman's 27 points with a pair of field goals and three extra points. His 24-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter extended the Paladins' lead to nine points, putting the game out of reach for Wofford. He earlier put Furman on the scoreboard with a 35-yard field goal.

Bouton's conference honor is his second straight and league leading third of the season. The national scroll is the third in the last two weeks by Furman players. A week ago tailback Louis Ivory garnered TSN national offensive player-of-the-week honors after rushing for a school record 301 yards and three touchdowns, and cornerback Richie Jackson landed ESPN/USA Today's defensive player-of-the-week citation for a performance that included a 29-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Paladins' 45-10 rout of previously top-ranked Georgia Southern.

Now 8-2 overall and 5-2 in Southern Conference play, Furman is ranked fourth in the latest Sports Network NCAA I-AA poll heading into Saturday's regular season finale against Chattanooga. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
