FURMAN CLIMBS TO NO. 8 IN
SPORTS NETWORK NCAA I-AA POLL

GREENVILLE -- The Furman Paladins, who downed Newberry 44-10 on Saturday for their second win of the 2000 season, climbed from ninth to eighth in the Sports Network NCAA I-AA Top 25 Poll, which was released today.

In addition to Furman, two other Southern Conference teams earned rankings. Defending national champion Georgia Southern slipped from No. 1 to No. 2 despite routing Johnson C. Smith 57-12, and Appalachian State dropped from fourth to seventh following a 34-28 loss to Troy State, which edged out Georgia Southern for the No. 1 spot.

Furman returns to action this Saturday when it squares off against William & Mary at 7:00 p.m. at Paladin Stadium.
