FURMAN CRACKS NCAA I-AA COACHES POLL AT NO. 25

GREENVILLE -- On the strength of Saturday's 27-19 win over Western Carolina, the Furman Paladins have cracked the ESPN-USA Today NCAA I-AA coaches poll at No. 25, it was announced Monday.

Furman's national ranking is its first since last season, when the Paladins were ranked 24th in mid-October before dropping out of the polls. In addition to Furman, other Southern Conference teams ranked in this week's poll include Georgia Southern (No.1), Appalachian State (No. 3), and East Tennessee State (No. 14).

"We've played well as a team the last three weeks, and that's why we are in the national rankings, but we have a long way to go against some pretty tough competition," said Furman head coach Bobby Johnson Monday afternoon."

Furman (3-1; 2-0 SoCon) returns to action this Saturday when it hosts Southern Conference foe Appalachian State (3-1; 2-0 SoCon) at Paladin Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
