FURMAN'S LOUIS IVORY NAMED SOUTHERN
CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

GREENVILLE -- Furman University tailback Louis Ivory has been named Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week for his performance in the Paladins' 48-21 win over East Tennessee State in Greenville on Saturday.

Ivory, a sophomore from Fort Valley, Ga., rushed 22 times for a career high 203 yards and two touchdowns in leading Furman to the decisive win over the previously 13th-ranked Buccaneers. His scoring runs covered 8 and 12 yards, and he set up another Paladin score with a career best 58-yard run in the second half. Ivory's 203-yard rushing performance was the 10th best in Furman football history and headlined a Paladin ground attack that rolled up 358 yards ‹ and 553 total yards ‹ against the Southern Conference' top rated defense.

"Louis had a sensational game against East Tennessee State, and his strong running really gave our offense a lift, which played a big part in the win," said Furman head coach Bobby Johnson on Monday.

Ivory's conference player-of-the-week scroll is his second of the season. Two weeks ago in a 35-21 win over third-ranked Appalachian State, Ivory rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns. With 920 yards through seven games, he is bidding to become the first Furman 1,000-yard rusher since 1992 when tailback Carl Tremble ran for 1,555 yards.

Winners of six straight and ranked 12th in this week's NCAA I-AA poll, Furman (6-1; 5-0 SoCon) returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on the University of North Carolina (1-6, 0-5 ACC). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
