FURMAN'S HILL, KEITH SWEEP SOUTHERN
CONFERENCE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK HONORS

GREENVILLE -- Furman University quarterback Justin Hill and free safety John Keith have been named Southern Conference Offensive and Defensive Players-of-the-Week, respectively, for their performances in the Paladins' 30-3 win over Wofford on Saturday.

Hill, a junior from Greer, S.C., ran 11 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns and also threw for 106 yards and a score in helping the Paladins move to within one victory of claiming a share of the 1999 Southern Conference championship. Hill's scoring runs covered 49 and 10 yards, and his touchdown pass covered 45 yards.

Keith, meanwhile, tallied a game high 17 tackles, including three critical tackles on fourth and short situations. Wofford went 0-for-6 on fourth down plays after coming into the game converting 67.9% of its fourth down attempts. The three points also represented a season scoring low for the Terriers, who entered the game averaging 36.0 points/game.

"Justin and John were equally key in what was a great team victory over Wofford," said head coach Bobby Johnson. "Justin got us going offensively with a long touchdown pass just before the half, and John keyed what I thought was an outstanding, big play effort by our defense against a quality Wofford offensive unit."

The honors mark the second time this season Hill and Keith have earned player-of-the-week accolades. Keith picked up his first scroll with a two-interception performance in Furman's 27-19 win over Western Carolina. Hill was accorded player-of-the-week honors after passing for 192 yards and two touchdowns in Furman's 28-3 win over North Carolina.

Winners of eight of its last nine games and ranked 8th in this week's Sports Network NCAA I-AA poll, Furman (8-2; 6-1 SoCon) wraps up its regular season when it takes on Chattanooga (5-5, 3-4 SoCon) in Chattanooga this Saturday at noon in a Fox Sports Net South (live) televised game.
