FURMAN'S WALTER BOOTH, LOUIS IVORY SWEEP
SOCON PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK HONORS

GREENVILLE -- Furman University free safety Walter Booth and tailback Louis Ivory have been named Southern Conference defensive and offensive players-of-the-week for their performances in the Paladins' 35-21 win over Appalachian State on Saturday.

Booth, a senior from Gainesville, Fla., who also earned national defensive player-of-the week accolades, registered five tackles, including a tackle-for-loss, and tied a Furman single game record with three interceptions in leading the Paladins to the victory over the previously third-ranked Mountaineers. Ivory, meanwhile, ran 27 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns in keying a Paladin ground attack that rolled up 300 rushing yards against the league's top rushing defense.

"Walter Booth and Louis Ivory were major factors in our win over Appalachian State," said Furman head coach Bobby Johnson. "They both produced big plays when we had to have them, and they helped set the tone of the game from the start."

Booth's three pickoffs matched the Furman single game record held by Joe Watts vs. Presbyterian (1951), Mark Gordon vs. Presbyterian (1975), and John Zemina (1982). Two weeks ago Booth helped Furman seal a 27-19 win over Western Carolina with a fourth quarter interception. He currently leads the Southern Conference with four interceptions and has 27 tackles through five games.

Ivory's 135 rushing yards marked his third 100-yard rushing performance of the season. The Fort Valley, Ga., native is the conference's second leading rusher with 619 yards and eight touchdowns.

Booth and Ivory's player-of-the-week selections mark the fourth and fifth conference player-of-the-week scrolls earned by Furman Paladins this season.

Furman (4-1; 3-0 SoCon) returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Charleston to take on arch-rival The Citadel (1-4; 0-2 SoCon) at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
