FURMAN TO WELCOME 20 FRESHMEN
TO PRE-SEASON CAMP WEDNESDAY

GREENVILLE -- Furman commences its 1999 football pre-season Wednesday when it welcomes 20 freshmen to campus in preparation for drills, which begin on Friday.

"We're naturally excited about our freshmen arriving and getting our pre-season underway," said head coach Bobby Johnson on Tuesday. "We've got a couple of days for physicals and orientation, and in that time we're confident they will learn more about what their lives are going to be like for the next four years. I know our players and coaching staff are anxious to out there on Friday and begin preparation for our first day of two-a-day practices, which start on Monday."

Furman's freshmen will report from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will undergo physicals beginning at 7:15 p.m. Prior to afternoon meetings on Thursday, the Paladin newcomers will visit Greenville's Childrens Hospital at 9:30 a.m. Practice for Furman's 20 freshmen will begin on Friday with sessions in shorts and helmets scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All Furman practices are free and open to the public.

Furman opens its 1999 season when it hosts Elon on Sept. 4.
