SEVEN HOME GAMES, THREE NIGHT GAMES
HIGHLIGHT 2000 FURMAN FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

GREENVILLE -- Seven home games, including three night contests, highlight Furmanıs 2000 season football schedule, which was announced today by vice president for intercollegiate athletics Dr. John Block.

Furman opens the season on Sept. 2 when it hosts Elon at Paladin Stadium in a 7:00 p.m. game, and the Paladins will entertain Newberry (Sept. 9) and William & Mary (Sept. 16) in night contests before kicking off Southern Conference play at VMI (Sept. 23). The Paladins other home games include afternoon clashes against Western Carolina (Sept. 30), The Citadel (Oct. 14), defending national champion Georgia Southern (Nov. 4), and Chattanooga (Nov. 18).

Parentsı weekend is scheduled in conjunction with The Citadel game on Oct. 14, and homecoming is slated for the weekend of the Georgia Southern contest on Nov. 4.

³With seven home games on our schedule, we believe we are giving the Greenville community a great chance to see our championship caliber team,² said Block. ³In addition, our night games in September will be attractive family events that include exciting fireworks.²

Though Furmanıs 2000 schedule does not include a traditional NCAA I-A foe, Block indicated that future Paladin schedules include I-A games. In 2001 the Paladins will play Wyoming; in 2002 Furman plays Vanderbilt; and in 2003 Furman will take on long-time foe Clemson.

In addition to detailing future I-A opponents, Block announced Furman has recently finalized a two-game series with Richmond in 2002 and 2003 seasons, with the first of the two clashes against the Spiders scheduled for Greenville.

Furman posted a 9-3 record and claimed a share of the Southern Conference championship on the way to a NCAA I-AA playoff appearance in 1999.
