Furman Announces 1998 Football Schedule

GREENVILLE -- A season opening game against Clemson and six home contests highlight the 1998 Furman University football schedule, which was released today by vice president for intercollegiate athletics Dr. John Block.

Furman opens the 1998 campaigan against Clemson on Sept. 5 and kicks off its six-game home schedule on Sept. 12 against South Carolina State in a 1:30 p.m. game. Furman plays its only night game of the year on Sept. 19 when it hosts Samford at 7:00 p.m. in Paladin Stadium. An Oct. 3 game against Western Carolina highlights Parents' Weekend, and homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 17 against arch-rival The Citadel. Georgia Southern (Nov. 7) and Chattanooga (Nov. 21) round out Furman's home season slate.

Head coach Bobby Johnson's program returns 13 starters off last year's squad that finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in Southern Conference play.
