Johnson Pleased With Paladins' Work On Friday

GREENVILLE -- After describing his team's first day in pads on Thursday as sloppy, Furman head coach Bobby Johnson offered quite a different perspective following Friday's two practice sessions.

"We had two really good practices today. We concentrated hard on 11-on-11 situations where they had to react and execute in full speed situations, and I was pleased with our progress, especially with the afternoon practice," said Johnson.

Johnson noted that the Paladin offense rebounded strong in the afternoon after a mediocre performance in the morning.

"I thought our offense was more aggressive in the afternoon. That was good to see because the defense was really impressive in the morning. I guess you don't want to see either side of the football dominate the other for any length of time."

The Paladins shied away from full contact on Friday in preparation for Saturday's planned scrimmage in Paladin Stadium, which gets underway at 2:00 p.m. following a fan autograph/picture session at 1:30 p.m.

"We want our players to be as fresh as possible for Saturday's scrimmage. We've got some players banged up and we don't want to add to that list. We'll scrimmage for an hour and a half or so, or as long as we're getting quality snaps," Johnson added.
