GREENVILLE -- Furman University quarterback Brent Rickman has been named Southern Conference Freshman-of-the-Week for his performance in the Paladins' 21-7 win over The Citadel in Charleston on Saturday.
Rickman, a true freshman from Rome, Ga., completed 9-of-17 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Paladins to their third straight win over the Bulldogs. His touchdown strikes covered 37 and 9 yards and helped the Paladins build what proved to be an insurmountable 21-0 lead by the end of the third quarter.
"Brent has really stepped in and done a nice job for us, and he had solid game Saturday under adverse conditions," said head coach Bobby Johnson. "His touchdown passes were perfectly thrown and were obviously big plays in a big game."
Rickman's selection as conference freshman-of-the-week is his second league honor of the year. Rickman was named Southern Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Week after throwing for a school freshman record 335 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-14 win over VMI on Sept. 27.
Rickman has served as Furman's quarterback since taking over for injured senior Chris Jonas in the Paladins' 17-6 loss to South Carolina State on Sept. 13.
