GREENVILLE -- Furman University vice president for intercollegiate athletics Dr. John Block announced today that the school has reached an agreement with Greenville Intermedia to televise live the Paladins' 1997 season opening football game against Samford.
The Thursday, Sept. 4 game will be broadcast live over Intermedia's Greenville and Spartanburg cable systems beginning at 8:00 p.m. (EST), and will be available to over 115,000 cable subscribers in the two metro areas.
"We are thrilled with the opportunity to bring the game back live to many of our fans in Greenville and Spartanburg, and we appreciate Jim Malone and the people at Intermedia and the effort they have made to make this broadcast possible," said Block in making the announcement Friday afternoon.
The Furman-Samford game will mark the first of seven Furman football telecasts this year. In addition to the Samford game, Intermedia will televise on a tape delay basis Furman's Sept. 13 road game against South Carolina State, plus the Paladins' five home games for the ninth consecutive year. Furman home contests will be replayed at 7:30 p.m. on game day and the Monday following each home game.
Chris Allen will again serve as play-by-play announcer, and assisting him with color commentary will be former Atlanta Falcon running back Lynn Cain.
