FURMAN BASKETBALL DROPS THIRD CONSECUTIVE SOCON GAME


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Lady Paladin basketball team dropped its third consecutive conference loss on Saturday in an 85-71 decision to Davidson at Timmons Arena.

Furman jumped out to an early lead and held a 16-point advantage, 28-12, with 9:52 to go in the half. By the break, however, the Wildcats had cut the Lady Paladin lead to two, 36-34. Furman sophomore Kena Hodges poured in 17 points in the first period and claimed a team-high five rebounds, while Davidsonšs Kerry Brown tallied 12 points in the half.

In the second period a Kerry Brown layup at the 19:42 mark tied the game for the first time, but by 7:47 the Wildcats had a 61-59 lead and the Lady Paladins were unable to regain the momentum. Davidson shot 60.7% in the second half while holding Furman to 38.5% shooting, and had stretched the lead to double-digits, 78-67, by the 2:20 mark.

The Wildcats were led on the day by junior Jamie Brown, who tallied 19 points. Janna Magette and Kerry Brown were also in double digits with 18 each, while Jessica Montrella added 14. The Furman effort was paced by Hodges, who scored a career-high 25 points and claimed eight rebounds. Sophomore Jackie Smith added 16 and senior Heidi White totaled 10.
