MIAMI SPOILS FURMAN OPENER

MIAMI, Fla. -- Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team dropped an 88-46 decision to the University of Miami Sunday in the season opener. The Lady Paladins turned the ball over 33 times in the 42-point loss.

In addition to Furman struggling to keep possession of the ball, the Hurricane shot 55.6% in the first period to take a 45-27 lead into the locker room. The Lady Paladins were unable to answer in the second half and fired a dismal 25% from the field to score only 19 second-half points.

Miami was led by Sheila James, who was five-for-seven from three point range en route to a team-high 21 point total. Furman was topped by Kena Hodges' 16 points and Jackie Smith's 12. Hodges was also the top Lady Paladin rebounder, with 11.

Furman will face Florida Atlantic University on Tuesday, Nov. 23, in Boca Raton. The game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
