FURMAN DOWNS HIGH POINT 95-71 IN TIMMONS

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Junior Tara Charles scored a career-high 15 points and dished off six assists to ignite the Furman women's basketball team to 95-71 victory over the High Point Panthers Tuesday night at Timmons Arena.

The Lady Paladins snapped a three game losing streak and improved to 2-4 on the year while scoring 95 points for the first time since Jan. 15, 1997. Jackie Smith led the Lady Paladin charge with 23 points and 11 rebounds for the 36th double-double of her career. Ashley Shipp added 12 points and Mary Brock and Kena Hodges each scored 10, giving Furman five players in double digits. Junior Torrie Scott scored only four, but dished off six assists and tallied one block and one steal.

Kelly Goode led the Panthers of High Point with 18 points, while Stephanie Scott added 13 and Toni Vick totaled 10. Mary Brewer and Gina Rosser each tallied nine rebounds.

Furman will not play for the next 10 days as the team breaks for exams. The Lady Paladins' next game is Friday, Dec. 17, when Furman hosts Wake Forest at 7 p.m. in Timmons.
