FURMAN DROPS 80-61 DECISION TO DARTMOUTH

HANOVER, New Hampshire -- For the second consecutive game Furman won the battle of the second half, but lost the war, as the Lady Paladins fell 80-61 to Dartmouth in consolation action at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H.

The Lady Paladin offense stalled in the first period, scoring just eight points in the first 11 minutes of play. A pair of Torrie Scott free throws with 9:06 to go in the first period got Furman going and the Lady Paladins scored 13 points in the final 6:15 of the half to cut the Dartmouth lead from 30 to 25, 48-23. The Lady Paladins shot just 23.7% in the first half, while allowing the Big Green to shoot 58.8% from the field and 50% from three point range.

In the second period Furman outscored Dartmouth 38-32, but never cut the Big Green lead to fewer than 19 points. Furman shot 34.2% in the final period and held Dartmouth to 29.6% shooting from the field. Furman also outrebounded Dartmouth 27-21 in the second half and 46-44 in the game.

The Lady Paladins were led by senior Jackie Smith, who recorded her 38th career double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Mary Brock added 15 points with seven-of-10 shooting from the field, while Tara Charles topped the team with five assists. Dartmouth was led by Courtney Banghart's 18 points.

With the loss, Furman falls to 4-6 on the year, while Dartmouth improves to 5-5..
