CARTER NAMES MAGNER TO ASSISTANT'S POSITION

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman head women's basketball coach Sherry Carter announced on Tuesday the hiring of Amber Magner as assistant coach with the Furman women's basketball program.

Magner holds a Bachelor of Arts in general studies and a Master of Education in sports management from the University of New Orleans, where she was a team captain and holds the single-season three-point record. In addition, Magner was the vice president of the student athlete advisory committee and was an All-Academic Scholar Athlete.

In addition to her experience as a college athlete, Magner interned at the Sun Belt Conference office for five months in 1998, and has worked as a camp counselor for the Joey Favaloro Basketball Camp at UNO.

Magner replaces former Lady Paladin Tonya Bristow, who spent one season on the Furman coaching staff following graduation.

"I am thrilled to have Amber join our staff," said Carter. "She is especially well trained in exercise physiology, and we look forward to her injecting new excitement into our training and conditioning programs."
