FURMAN RUNS WIN STREAK TO FOUR WITH 78-46 VICTORY OVER WOFFORD

BOX SCORE

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Terriers of Wofford connected on 10 three-pointers Tuesday night in Timmons Arena, but it was not enough to overcome a quartet of Lady Paladin double digit scorers as Furman defeated Wofford 78-46 in Southern Conference women’s basketball action.

Wofford guard Brie Bradshaw scored the Terrier’s first 15 points of the game and went three-for-five from three-point range, but the Lady Paladins shot 56.5% from the field and held a 37-20 advantage at the half.

In the second period Furman went on a 14-7 run to start the period and take a 24-point lead with 15:06 left to play. Wofford his three three-pointers in four possessions to pull within 17, but the Lady Paladins owned the lane and on the night outscored the Terriers 48-6 in the paint.

Furman was paced by Deshara Shealey’s 16 points, while Tommi Paris added 14, Jen Nadalin contributed 13, and Orion Wake poured in 11. Wake needed one more rebound for a double-double and Katie Roach, who grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, needed just two more points for a double-double of her own. Shealey also dished off a team-best four assists, while Laney Harris picked up four steals and two blocks on the night.

“I’m really excited about how Orion has bought into our system,” said coach Sam Dixon following the game. “She leads by example, diving on the floor even when we are up by a bunch and she inspires everyone else to keep playing hard. We really look to her as a go to player and we need to keep getting the ball to her because she knows how to get things done.”

The Terriers were paced by Bradshaw, who connected on nine field goals, six from three point range to score a team-high 26 on the night. Bradshaw’s six threes combined with two by Stephanie Ripberger, and one each by Mary Jo Yee and LaToya Strong to put the Terriers within one three-pointer of the school record for treys in a game. In addition, Bradshaw’s 26 points were one shy of her career-best and her six three-pointers were one off the school record for individual threes in a game.

With the win Furman improves to 13-8 overall and 10-4 in the Southern Conference, while Wofford falls to 0-20 overall and 0-13 in league play. The Lady Paladins will host Appalachian State Saturday at 3 p.m., while Wofford hosts the Mountaineers Monday in a 7 p.m. contest.
