LADY PALADINS OPEN 2003-04 SEASON AT PROVIDENCE
GAME TO BE BROADCAST VIA INTERNET


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman women’s basketball team will open the 2003-04 season Saturday, November 22, with a 2p.m. game at Providence College in Providence, R.I.

A member of the BIG EAST, Providence returns seven letterwinners from last year’s team that went 9-18 overall under first-year head coach Susan Yow. The Lady Paladins, meanwhile, posted a 16-14 overall record and finished fourth in the Southern Conference with an 11-7 league mark under first-year coach Sam Dixon. In the 2003-04 Southern Conference preseason coaches poll, the Lady Paladins were picked for a second-place finish behind defending league champion, Chattanooga.

In addition to returning Southern Conference Player of the Year Deshara Shealey, the Lady Paladins welcome back all nine letterwinners from last year’s team as well as 2002-03 redshirts Mivvi Strickland and Orion Wake. Furman’s roster also sports a trio of freshmen in guard Elizabeth Sorensen, forward Megan Gallagher, and center Jessica Lange.

Saturday’s season opening game will not be broadcast by Furman, but will be broadcast over the internet by the host Friars.
