LADY PALADINS OPEN 2003-04 SOCON SLATE ON MONDAY


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman women's basketball team opens the 2003-04 Southern Conference slate Monday night with a 7 p.m. game against the East Tennessee State Bucs at Timmons Arena.

The 2003-04 season marks the 20th year that team's have competed for a Southern Conference women's regular season title. Over the years Furman has won four regular season league titles and two SoCon Tournament Championships.

Furman is off to a 1-1 start this year after a season opening loss to the Big East's Providence, and a victory over Gardner-Webb. In the preseason league poll Furman, which returns all nine letterwinners from last year's squad, was picked to finish second behind reigning league champion Chattanooga.

Monday night's game is Furman's first home contest of the 2003-04 regular season.
