FURMAN MAULS TERRIERS 90-64


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furmanıs womenıs basketball team used a 13-0 run in the first half of Saturdayıs game against Southern Conference foe Wofford to establish a solid lead that held for a 90-64 Lady Paladin victory in Timmons Arena.

With 9:44 to go in the first half, the Lady Paladins held a slim 25-24 advantage over cross-town rival Wofford. Four minutes later a pair of free throws at the 5:28 mark signaled 13 unanswered Furman points and gave the Lady Paladins the 38-24 lead. Furman continued to lead by double digits for the remainder of the half and had a 15-point, 48-33 lead, at the break.

A strong showing on the inside by Furman post players Jen Nadalin (Guelph, Ontario) and Deshara Shealey (Greenbay, Va.) made the difference in the game, as did a 51-26 Lady Paladin rebounding advantage. Nadalin Scored 21 points on the night and claimed 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. Shealey, meanwhile, scored 15 and claimed four steals, while freshman Lauren Few (Hendersonville, N.C.) added 12 points and Kim Lawrence (Atlanta, Ga.) kicked in 10.

On the night, Furman outscored Wofford 59-20 in the paint and 26-4 off second chance points. The 26-point victory was Furmanıs largest victory over a Southern Conference opponent since the Lady Paladins doubled-up the Terriers 76-38 in the 2000-01 season.

Despite the loss, Wofford had four players record double figure scoring, and were led by Brie Bradshawıs 20 point effort. Ricaye Harris added 13 points, while Jenn Statsie contributed 11 and Becky Sasso counted 10.

With the win, Furman improves to 8-7 on the year and 4-2 in the Southern Conference, while the Terriers fall to 4-11 overall and 1-5 in league play. Furman will face East Tennessee State Monday night in Johnson City, Tenn., while Wofford travels to Chattanooga to face the conference-leading Mocs.
