Lady Paladins Down Mars Hill 107-60 In Exhibition Opener
Greenville, S.C. -- Jen Nadalin scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Furman Lady Paladin basketball team to a 107-60 win over the Mountain Lions of Mars Hill in Furman's only exhibition contest of the year Sunday afternoon at Timmons Arena.
Nadalin, a junior from Guelph, Ontario, totaled 18 first half points on 9-13 shooting as the Paladins opened up a 61-23 adavantage at the break. The Lady Paladins shot a blistering 66.7 percent from the field in the first half connecting on 26 of 39 attempts, while forcing 19 Mountain Lion turnovers in the game's first 20 minutes.
Mars Hill, who shot 36 percent in the opening half, hit 52 percent of its second half shots, but the Lady Paladins managed to post a 46-37 edge on the scoreboard in the secon frame.
Four Lady Paladins joined Nadalin in double figures led by Deshara Shealey's 22 points. Kim Lawrence tallied 11, Katie Roach scored 17 and freshman Tommi Paris added 19 for Furman. Shealey, a junior from Green Bay, Va., hit 10-16 shots from the field and recorded five steals and four assists.
Furman used a full court press to force 37 Mars Hill turnovers and recorded 24 steals in the contest. The Lady Paladins also converted 7-12 free throws and shot 57.9 percent from the field for the game.
Tiffany Atkins led Mars Hill with 18 points and five assists, while Holly Carringer chipped in with 14 points for the Mountain Lions.
Furman opens its regular season on against the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels Friday at 5:30p.m. at Timmons Arena.
