FORMER LADY TIGER MARCI GLENNEY NAMED TO DIXON'S STAFF

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Former Clemson roundballer Marci Glenney has accepted a position as assistant women's basketball coach at Furman, head coach Sam Dixon announced on Monday.

Glenney, whose hometown is Lisbon, Conn., played point guard for two years at UConn before transferring to Clemson. In 2000-01, she was the fourth leading scorer on the Lady Tiger team, playing in all but six games. As a senior (2001-02), Glenney played four positions, and was third on the squad with a 9.7 points per game average. Glenney also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, and was third on the team with 41 steals.

A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Glenney graduated from Clemson this spring with a degree in marketing. She was named third-team All ACC last year, while helping the Lady Tigers to a 17-12 overall record and 9-7 mark in league play.

A Connecticut USA Today Player of the Year as a prepster, Glenney was described by Davis as the Tigers' most versatile player. "She does everything pretty well. A fierce competitor, the intensity level at which Marci plays is contagious to her teammates."

"A big part of the reason that I wanted Marci on my staff was her ability to play the game with a great understanding of what was going on and her tremendous work ethic and spirit which really led the Clemson team," said Dixon. "Marci was a team captain and had the rare combination of being able to lead with words and action. She definitely walked her talk. It is an added bonus that she is familiar with me and will understand completely a lot of what we are going to do. She has seen me in all different situations and I thought it was important that someone on my staff know me so well."

Monday was Glenney's first official day on the Furman staff.
