LADY PALADINS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, UPEND COUGARS 74-49


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Deshara Shealey scored 15 points and teammate Jen Nadalin added 12 points and grabbed a game high10 rebounds as Furman defeated the College of Charleston 74-49 in women's Southern Conference basketball Saturday night in front of 503 fans at the John Kresse Arena.

The Lady Paladins opened up an 18 point first half lead before the Cougars rallied for seven straight points to trim the Furman advantage to 35-24 at the break. The Cougars got no closer in the second half as Furman outscored the College of Charleston 39-25 to cruise to a 74-49 win.

Furman shot 57.1 percent (16-28) in the second half, while Charleston could manage only seven second half field goals. The College of Charleston shot 36% (9-25) from the floor and committed 13 turnovers, which led to 20 Furman points. For the game, the Cougars only connected on 28.6% (16-56) from the floor and 15% (3-20) from behind the 3-point arc.

The Cougars fell to 7-10 overall, 2-6 in the conference while Furman improved to 10-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

The Cougars return to action tomorrow as they travel to Davidson to face the Lady Wildcats. Furman host Western Carolina Monday in a 7:00 pm game.
