FURMAN RUNS WIN STREAK TO FIVE WITH 67-56 WIN OVER DAVIDSON


GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furmanıs zone defense and full court pressure proved a powerful one-two punch Tuesday night in Timmons Arena, as the Lady Paladin basketball team ran its current win streak to five with a 67-56 victory over the Davidson Wildcats.

Furman forced 25 Wildcat turnovers, scoring 23 points off the Davidson miscues. In addition, the Lady Paladin defense held the Wildcats to 22.2% shooting in the first period, which contributed to Furmanıs 32-18 lead at the half.

Though Davidson made a game of it in the last five minutes, pulling to within nine with 2:58 left, sophomore Jen Nadalin (Guelph, Ont.) made a layup and free throw in the last two and a half minutes to help secure Furmanıs 11-point win.

Nadalin led the Lady Paladins with 15 points on the night, while Deshara Shealey (Greenbay, Va.) added 12 and Kim Lawrence (Atlanta, Ga.) totaled 11. Sophomore Katie Roach (Marietta, Ga.) recorded a career-high 11 rebounds while adding eight points of her own. Meanwhile freshman Tommi Paris (Chattanooga, Tenn.), who was sidelined for a portion of the game with an ankle injury, grabbed six steals on the night while scoring nine points and dishing out three assists.

The Wildcats were paced by Ashley Hallstedıs 16 points and nine rebounds, while Bethany Schott totaled 14 points and eight boards.

With the win, Furman improves to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Conference, while Davidson falls to 5-7 and 0-3. Furman will host the Georgia Southern Eagles this Saturday, January 11, in a 4 p.m. game at Timmons Arena.
