Furman's Orion Wake Earns Player of the Week Honor Junior center led Furman to key SoCon wins last week with two double-doubles

ASHEVILLE, NC -- The Southern Conference announced today that Furman junior Orion Wake has earned the Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for January 15. A center from Woodbridge, VA, Wake led the Lady Paladins to a 2-1 record while averaging a double-double.

She began the week with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 75-71 overtime loss to Wofford on January 8 while shooting 70 percent (7-of-10) from the floor and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw line. She then was key in Furmanšs 62-51 win over Chattanooga on January 12 as she pulled down 11 boards, including five defensive, and added six points. Wake concluded the week with a career-high 26 points to spur Furman to an 85-83 overtime win over Georgia Southern on January 14. She also tallied 13 rebounds and was 10-of-13 (76.9 percent) from the charity stripe while shooting 80 percent (8-of-10) from the floor.

Wake averaged 17.3 points and 12 rebounds per game last week and recorded her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season. She recorded a 72 percent (18-of-25) shooting percentage and was 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) from the free throw line. Twenty-one of her 36 rebounds were defensive and she added two steals to her credit.
