FURMAN TOPS SECOND-PLACE CHATTANOOGA 68-62

CHATANOOGA, Tennessee -- Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team went on the road Monday and recorded a 68-62 win over Chattanooga, snapping the Moc's nine-game win streak and earning a season sweep over the conference's second place team.

The Lady Paladins came out shooting and connected on 45.2% of their first half shots to lead 33-23 at the half. In the second period the Mocs staged a comeback, taking their first lead on a free throw by Heather McDivitt at the 9:42 mark. Furman regained the lead at 7:48 on an Althea Bufford layup and the Mocs were unable to shake a tenacious Furman defense.

In the final eight minutes the Lady Paladins held UTC to 10 points while tallying 15 of their own. In the final 5:14 sophomore guard Deshara Shealey connected on eight free throws to keep the game out of the reach for the hometown Mocs.

With the victory Furman improves to 14-10 overall and 9-6 in the league, while Chattanooga falls to 17-7 and 11-4. The Mocs remain in second while Furman further secured its third-place position.

Shealey led all Furman scorers with 23 points while Orion Wake added 13. The Mocs were paced by Heather McDivitt's 15 point effort and Damita Bullock 14 point showing.

Furman will host the Eagles of Georgia Southern Saturday at 3 p.m. in Timmons Arena.
