FURMAN LOSES SECOND STRAIGHT OVERTIME GAME

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Jenny Nett had 26 points to lead Wofford to a 75-71 overtime victory against the Lady Paladins of Furman in Southern Conference action Tuesday night. With the win, Wofford improves to 9-5 on the season, and 3-2 in league play.  Furman falls to 6-7, 1-3.

Despite trailing by nine at halftime of the contest, Wofford had control late in the game, leading by as much as six late in the second half.  Furman kept it close, cutting the lead with a three-pointer and pair of free throws by Monica Pope.  With the score 63-60 at the 13-second mark, the Lady Paladins' Kim Lawrence came up with a big three to tie the score.  Wofford had a chance to end the game in regulation, but a missed final shot sent the game into overtime tied at 63.

Furman's Orion Wake notched the first score of the extra period, hitting a layup for the edge.  However, Nett would respond with a three-pointer to give Wofford a lead it would not relinquish.  Natalie Walsh extended the lead to four with a three-pointer.  The Lady Paladins had a chance to win or send the game to a second overtime when a Wofford charge gave them the ball and a two-point deficit with 30 seconds remaining.  Their last attempt, a jumper at the seven-second mark, missed, and Ricaye Harris got a fast break layup to finish the game.

Wofford had fallen behind, 38-29, by the end of the first period.  The Lady Terriers were able to cut the lead to one twice.  Then, trailing by three at the 9:37 mark, Nett made a layup and was fouled, giving her a free throw to tie the score at 48-48.  Then, at the 8:41 mark, she made a three-pointer to give the Lady Terriers their first lead since early in the first half. Nett's 26 points marked her eighth 20+ point scoring game this year.  She now is just 21 points short of becoming Wofford's all-time scoring leader.  She also had three three-pointers on the night, and is just two shy of the Wofford record in that category. Walsh extended her double-digit scoring streak to four games, notching fifteen points and adding five rebounds on the night.  Nancy Dubuisson had ten ponits, and Pheobe Clark came up with six points and nine rebounds.

Wake led Furman with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the year.  Pope had 11 points and four assists for Furman, while Deshara Shealey added 10 points, five assists and six rebounds.  Mary Brock had 10 points and five rebounds on the evening.

Wofford next travels to Davidson for a 3 p.m. game this Saturday.  Furman also plays Saturday, hosting Chattanooga at 6:30 p.m.
