FURMAN FALLS 78-62 TO INDIANA

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana -- Despite a career effort by senior guard Tara Charles, Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team fell 78-62 to the Hoosiers of Indiana Friday night at the Indiana Classic in Bloomington, Ind.

The Lady Paladins shot 39.1% in the first half and trailed by only three, 35-32, at the break. In the second period, however, the Hoosiers came out strong, firing a blistering 58.3% from the field, to take the 16-point victory.

Furman was led on the night by Charles, who scored a career-high 23 points on eight field goals, a pair of three pointers, and a five-for-six night from the line. Charles proved to be Furman's only offensive weapon, however, and was the only Lady Paladin to score in double figures. Mary Brock and Orion Wake led rebounding with six each, while senior Torrie Scott recorded four assists to lead Furman in playmaking.

The Hoosiers were paced by Tara Jones' 15 points, while Jill Chapman and Rainey Alting each added 11. Heather Cassady dished off a team-high eight assists.

With the loss Furman falls to 1-1 on the year, and will face the winner of the Belmont-Brown game in consolation action tomorrow at 6 p.m.
