FURMAN SNAPS TWO-GAME SKID WITH WIN OVER APPALACHIAN STATE

BOONE, North Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday with a 74-51 Southern Conference victory over the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.

Three Lady Paladins scored in double figures and all but one team member put points on the board in the 23-point win. The team was led by Torrie Scott's 14 points, while Mary Brock added 12 and Althea Bufford totaled 10. Freshman Kim Lawrence topped the rebounding effort with 10, leading Furman to a 57-35 advantage on the boards.

In the first period, Furman held Appalachian State to 25% shooting from the field on six first half goals, and took a 34-17 advantage into the locker room. In the second half, the Mountaineers fared a little better, shooting 30.6% from the field, but Furman connected to 17-of-38 field goals for a 44.7% mark and outscored their hosts 40-34.

With the win, Furman improves to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Conference, while the Mountaineers fall to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in league play. The Lady Paladins will play at Davidson on Tuesday, Jan. 9, in another Southern Conference faceoff.
