FURMAN AVENGES EARLIER LOSS WITH 65-57 DEFEAT OF CHARLESTON

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team avenged a one-point loss suffered at the hands of the College of Charleston on Dec. 28, with a 65-57 victory Saturday at Timmons Arena. With the win, the Lady Paladins improved to 6-4 in the Southern Conference, and took over sole possession of fourth place in the league standings.

Junior guard Althea Bufford led the Lady Paladin offensive effort with 20 points on eight-of-14 shooting from the field, while sophomore Orion Wake claimed a team-high 10 rebounds. Kena Hodges added 10 points to the Furman cause, while freshman Deshara Shealey added seven.

The Cougars were led by Wilma Simpson's 14 points on five-of-eight shooting from the field, while Brittney Scarberry scored 13 and Carey Stumpf totaled 11. Furman outrebounded the Cougar 46-30, upping the Lady Paladin record when outrebounding their opponent to 11-4.

The Lady Paladins, 12-7 on the year, will face the Catamounts of Western Carolina Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Timmons Arena. Furman defeated WCU 79-72 in overtime on Nov. 21.
