FURMAN DROPS TWO POINT DECISION TO FIRST-PLACE SPARTANS

GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team dropped a 60-58 decision to the first-place UNC Greensobor Spartans, Saturday in Southern Conference action.

The Lady Paladins led the Spartans 35-29 at halftime, but were unable to hold the lead as Greensboro stormed back in the second half to outscore the Lady Paladins 31-23. The Spartans' second-half display was successful despite the face that center Sandi Reid did not play the entire game and point guard ChoRhonda Gwaltney was out for most of the half with an injury.

Samika Foster led the Spartan effort with 16 points on the day, while Jacinda Lambert and Brianne Dodgen, the 2000 Southern Conference Tournament MVP, each tallied 12. Furman was topped by Kena Hodges' 16 points, 12 of which were scored in the first half. Senior Torrie Scott added 15 points and freshman Kim Lawrence contributed 12 in the two-point loss.

Despite the loss, Furman remains in fourth place in the Southern Conference standings wtih a 13-8 overall record and 7-5 record in the conference. UNCG remains tied with Chattanooga for the regular season lead, with a 17-4 overall record and 11-1 mark in league action.

Furman will host the Mountaineers of Appalachian State in Timmons Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m.
