Furman Upends Wofford 80-61

Mary Brock had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Furman to an 80-61 victory over Wofford in Southern Conference women's basketball action tonight in Spartanburg, S.C.

Brock hit 10-of-15 shots from the field, including 2-of-3 behind the arc. The Lady Paladins (16-8, 10-5) were 5-of-6 from 3-point range in the second half to finish the game 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from long range.

Furman never trailed in the contest. After Wofford's Jenny Nett scored on a layup to close the Lady Terrier deficit to 7-6 with 15:48 to play in the first half, the Lady Paladins scored the next eight points to go ahead 15-6. Brock and Torrie Scott each had four points during the spurt.

Wofford (8-16, 4-11) then scored the next four points to pull within 15-10. Furman again answered by going on a 9-2 run, capped by a Tara Charles 3-pointer, on the way to a 31-22 halftime lead.

A 3-pointer by Stacy Parris and layup by Jessica Ridgill brought Wofford within 33-27 with 18:46 to play before Furman countered with an 11-2 spurt to put the game away. Brock hit a 3-pointer to begin and end the run as Furman led 44-29 with 15:56 remaining. Wofford would not be able to close within 15 points the remainder of the contest.

Nett topped Wofford with 17 points and nine rebounds while Parris scored nine points and Stephanie Adelaine added eight. The Lady Terriers shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) in the second half to finish the game at 44.3 percent.

Charles scored 12 points to go with six assists for Furman with Kim Lawrence adding 10 points.
