FURMAN FALLS 80-59 TO CLEMSON

CLEMSON, South Carolina -- Theough the Lady Paladin basketball team was outscored by only three in the second period, a one-sided first-half gave the Clemson women's team an 80-59 victory over Furman Wednesday night in Littlejohn Coliseum.

Furman shot 32.3% from the field in the first half and the defense was stymied as the Tigers connected on 17 of 29 shots for a scorching 58.6 shooting percentage. The combined with the Lady Paladins' two-for-eight effort from the free throw line, allowed Clemson to take an 18-point lead into the halftime locker room.

Furman fared far better in the second half, shooting 40% from the field on 14-of-35 shooting, while holding the Lady Tigers to 39.0% on a 16-of-41 effort. Furman also hit the boards in the second period, and outrebounded Clemson 44-41 for the game.

The Lady Paladins were led by junior Mary Brock's 12 points, while sophomore Althea Bufford added 11 and freshman Kim Lawrence kicked in 10. Sophomore Orion Wake led Furman's rebounding effort with 11, and senior Tara Charles led playmaking with five assists.

The Tigers were topped by Erin Batth's 22 points and 10 rebounds. Chrissy Floyd added 15 and Marci Glenney totaled 14.

With the win, Clemson improves to 4-2 on the year, while the Lady Paladins fall to 3-3. Furman will take a break for exams before traveling to High Point on Dec. 15 at 6 p.m.
