FURMAN OVERCOMES MISTAKES TO BEAT HIGH POINT 68-63

HIGH POINT, North Carolina -- In their first game back after exams, Furman's Lady Paladin basketball team committed 25 turnovers and shot just 57.6% from the free throw line, but outrebounded the Panthers of High Point 52-28 in a 68-63 victory. With the win, Furman improved to 4-3 on the season.

The Lady Paladins took a one-point, 31-30 lead into the halftime locker room, but shot 50% from the field to outscore the Panthers 37-33 in the second period for the five point victory. It was only the second game between these two programs, but was significantly closer than last year's 95-71 Furman rout.

Furman freshman Kim Lawrence led the team with 13 points and 15 rebounds for her first career double-double and third consecutive double digit scoring performance. Senior Mary Brock added 12 and Kena Hodges 11, while Torrie Scott dished off a team-high four assists and freshman Deshara Shealey claimed three steals.

The Panthers were paced by Narelle Henry's 12 points.

The Lady Paladin basketball team opens its home schedule on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 3:00 p.m. It will be the first game of the regular season for Furman within the confines of Timmons Arena, where the Lady Paladins posted an 11-3 record last season.
