FURMAN'S FRANK SELVY NAMED AMONG
COLLEGE BASKETBALL'S 100 GREATEST PLAYERS

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Street & Smith's Magazine has selected Furman's Frank Selvy as one of the 100 Greatest College Basketball Players.

Named NCAA National Player-of-the-Year in 1954 after averaging a nation's best 41.7 ppg and leading the Paladins to a 20-9 record, Selvy was ranked 50th among the game's all-time greatest performers, which are profiled in the magazine's December Collector's Edition: 100 Greatest College Basketball Players.

UCLA's Lew Alcindor earned the No. 1 ranking followed by fellow Bruin Bill Walton (No. 2), Cincinnati's Oscar Robertson (No. 3), University of San Francisco's Bill Russell (No. 4), and LSU's Pete Maravich (No. 5). Indiana State's Larry Bird (No. 6), N.C. State's David Thompson (No. 7), Kansas' Wilt Chamberlain (No. 8), Houston's Elvin Hayes (No. 9), and West Virginia's Jerry West (No. 10) round out the Top 10 picks.

Selvy, a native of Corbin, Ky., who on Feb. 13, 1954, scored an NCAA record 100 points in a 149-95 win over Newberry at Greenville's Textile Hall, was the No. 1 Draft pick of the Baltimore Bullets later that year. He went on to average 10.8 ppg in nine years of professional ball, including four seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played alongside Hall-of-Famers West and Elgin Baylor.
