FURMAN BASKETBALL SIGNS FLORIDA STANDOUT
TO NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman men's basketball coach Larry Davis announced today the signing of Stanley Jones to a national letter of intent.

Jones, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward from Miami, Fla., and Monsignor Pace Preparatory School, averaged 10.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a senior in keying his squad to a 27-6 record and Florida AAA state final four appearance. As a junior he helped pace Monsignor Pace to a 33-5 and state championship.

"The signing of Stanley Jones makes this a very exciting day for our program because of the potential he has to develop into an exceptional low post player," said Davis on Thursday. "His size and athletic ability are a rare find at the mid-major level."

Among Jones' top games last season was a 14-point, 17-rebound performance in a 68-63 regional semifinal victory over Key West. He scored 11 points and recorded five blocks in the 2004 Nike Dade vs. Broward All-Star Game.

In addition to Furman, he was recruited by Stetson, Old Dominion, Florida International, and Appalachian State.

Jones' signing gives Furman two recruits for 2003-04. The Paladins inked 6-foot-2 guard Jadee Jones from Hopkins High School in Apple Valley, Minn., in November.

Furman posted a 17-12 record in 2003-04 under Davis, who is entering his eighth season at the helm of the Paladin program.
