FURMAN LANDS THREE ON
SOUTHERN CONFERENCE ALL-FRESHMAN SQUAD

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Three Furman Paladins have been named to the five-member Southern Conference All-Freshman Team, which was released today.

Forwards Quan Prowell and Moussa Diagne (pronounced "Jine") were joined by guard Robby Bostain in being named to the squad, which was selected by vote of league head coaches. Furman's selections marked the first time in conference history a school had placed as many as three players on the team. In all Furman has had 24 players named to league all-freshman squads since its inception in 1977.

"We were blessed with an outstanding freshman class this year, and they have all been a big part of our success," said Furman head coach Larry Davis early Monday afternoon. "Eric Webb could have easily made it, but I guess it would have been difficult to get four players on a five-man team, especially when it's the first time any school had had three players make it in one year."

Prowell, a 6-foot-7 product of Columbus, Ga., who earlier today was named the league's freshman-of-the-year, averaged 10.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Paladins in 2003-04.

Diagne, a 6-foot-8 native of Thies, Senegal, scored at a 8.6 points per game clip this year while also averaging 4.7 rebounds and shooting a team leading 55.5 percent from the field. He scored a season high 23 points in the Paladins' 58-57 win over College of Charleston last Wednesday.

And Bostain, a 6-foot-4 guard from Duluth, Ga., heads into Wednesday's Southern Conference Tournament first round clash versus Western Carolina as the league's top scoring freshman, averaging 10.2 points per game. He scored 18 points in the Paladins' 72-63 triumph over the Catamounts in Cullowhee on Feb. 16.

Keyed by a freshman class that contributed 48.3 percent of the team's offense, Furman posted a 16-11 regular season record and 8-8 Southern Conference South Division mark in 2003-04. The Paladins take on Western Carolina at noon Wednesday in the league tournament first round action on the North Charleston Coliseum.
