FURMAN SWAMPS GREENSBORO COLLEGE, 74-49

Box Score

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Quan Prowell scored 16 points to lead Furman past Greensboro College 74-49 in basketball action at Timmons Arena.

Prowell, a 6-foot-7 freshman forward from Columbus, Ga., connected on 6-of-11 field goals, including a pair of 3-point attempts, and added two free throws for his game high 16-point performance in helping Furman (2-1) to its second consecutive win.

Maleye Nodye added 15 points, and Eric Webb chipped in 12 points for the Paladins. Jason Williams led Greensboro College (0-3) with 14 points.

Furman raced to a 41-14 halftime lead and was never threatened in the contest that saw all 13 Paladins in uniform earn playing time.

“I was pleased with our effort in the first half, particularly on defense,” said Furman head coach Larry Davis. “Anytime you hold an opponent to 14 points in a half, you’re playing pretty good defense. I also thought we were better in transition tonight than we were on Monday (77-53 win over Southern Wesleyan). We still have a lot of work to do to be a good basketball team, but I saw some progress tonight, and that’s important this early in the year.”

Furman shot only 37.3 percent from the field (25x67) but used strong defensive pressure to help force 29 Greensboro turnovers. The Paladins also fashioned a 41-33 rebounding advantage thanks, in part, to a game seven rebounds by Ndoye and Robby Bostain, who also contributed a game high six assists.

Furman returns to action on Sunday against the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. EST, and the game will be carried live by WGOG-FM 96.3 (Walhalla).
