FURMAN DUMPS ST. MARY's 81-44

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Karim Souchu scored a game high 15 points to lead Furman to an 81-44 win over vistiting NCAA Division III St. Mary's College of Maryland Wednesday night at Timmons Arena.

Playing its third game in three nights, Furman (3-3) also got 11 points from Maleye Ndoye and 10 each from Kenny Zeigler and Ryan Chancler. St. Mary's (0-3), which was also playing its third game in as many days, was paced by Jonathan Neely and Donovan Gaspard with seven points each.

"Having played the last two nights in Kansas City and flying home this afternoon for this game, I must say I was pleased with our effort," said Furman head coach Larry Davis. "This would have been a game where you might expect the guys to just go through the motions at times and play as individuals, but I thought we played well as a team and made some improvement. I liked our intensity, especially at the start of the second half."

Furman dominated the game in every area, shooting 49.3 percent from the field while holding St. Mary's to 32.8 percent. The Paladins also claimed a 49-27 advantage on the boards and forced 20 Seahawk turnovers.

Leading 39-21 at intermission, Furman reeled off 16 consecutive points to start the second half to take total control following a layup by Paco Gonzalez at the 15:01 mark for a 55-21 advantage.

Ndoye claimed 11 boards to lead all rebounders, and Guilherme Da Luz added eight assists and eight points for the Paladins to up his career points total to 999. He is bidding to become the 35th player in Furman history to score 1,000 points.

Furman returns to action next Wednesday when it takes on Georgia State in Atlanta in a 7:00 p.m. game televised by CSS.
