Charleston, S.C. -- Leighton Bowie scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, while teammate Jeff Bolton added 12 points leading the College of Charleston to a 62-45 win over Furman in men's Southern Conference college basketball action before 3,267 Saturday at John Kresse Arena.

Charleston (16-5, 6-4 SoCon), which led 36-29 at halftime, never trailed after Troy Wheless hit a jumper with 15:15 left in the opening half for a 12-10 Cougar advantage. Charleston held Furman (11-10, 4-6) without a field goal for the first 7:01 of the second half and to just 20.8 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes (5-24).

The Cougars opened the second half with a 16-4 run to a 52-33 lead with 10:04 left in the game. Furman was paced by Anthony Thomas' game-high 16 points and 12 points off the bench from Karim Souchu.

The Cougars, who outrebounded the Paladins 26-9 in the second half, held a 43-22 margin on the glass, including 17-8 on the offensive end.

Charleston got 11 points from Wheless and 11 rebounds from Mike Benton. Bowie's double-double was his fifth this season and the ninth of his career. The Cougars shot 45.1 percent from the floor, while the Paladins hit on 31.1 percent.
