SOUCHU'S 21 PROPELS FURMAN PAST CAMPBELL 83-53

GREENVILLE -- Karim Souchu scored 21 points and Anthony Thomas added 18 points to propel Furman to an 83-53 win over Campbell Saturday night at Timmons Arena.

Souchu, a junior forward, connected on 8-of-14 field goals on the way to his game high scoring total, and Thomas, a senior guard, keyed the Paladins' strong perimeter shooting effort by converting 4-of-8 3-pointers to help Furman (4-1) to its fourth straight win and second victory over Campbell (2-4) in a week. On Monday the Paladins edged the Camels in Buies Creek, 78-75.

Furman shot only 40.8 percent (29-of-71) from the field, but the Paladins found the mark on 12-of-22 3-pointers (45.5 percent). In addition to Thomas, Furman got strong shooting from junior guard Ryan Chancler, who knocked down 4-of-5 3-point attempts on the way to a 16-point game. Junior point guard Guilherme Da Luz contributed a career high 12 rebounds to go along with six points, nine assists, and five steals.

The Camels got 19-point performances from Jonte' Edwards and Adam Fellers.

Ahead 38-31 at intermission, Furman put together a 10-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half to take a 48-33 lead following steal by Paco Gonzalez and layup by Maleye Ndoye with 15:10 remaining.

Campbell narrowed the Furman advantage to 54-44 with a jump shot by Fellers at the 11:41 mark, but the Paladins answered with a 12-0 spurt over the following three minutes to take control. A Thomas jump shot the 8:25 juncture made it 66-44. Only once after that did the Camels get the Paladin advantage under 20 points.

In addition to shooting well from 3-point range, Furman dominated the boards with a 50-31 advantage. Besides Da Luz's game high 12 rebounds, the Paladins' Nick Sanders and Kenny Zeigler chipped in seven rebounds each.

Furman's defense also forced Campbell into 21 turnovers and led to 12 Paladin steals.

Furman returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts UNC Asheville in a 7:00 p.m. game. Campbell's next game is against Georgia State, in Atlanta, on Dec. 12, with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m.
