TO 82-41 ROUT OF ASBURY

Box Score

GREENVILLE -- Karim Souchu scored 16 points to lead Furman to an 82-41 rout of Asbury Tuesday night at Timmons Arena.

A junior and the leading returning scorer in the Southern Conference, Souchu paced Furman (1-1) despite not starting for the only second time in 57 games and playing only 21 minutes of action. He was followed closely by Guilherme Da Luz with 15 points and junior Ryan Chancler with 13 points.

Asbury (5-1) was led by Ronnie Brown's game high 17 points.

The Paladins shot 50.0 percent from the field and the same from 3-point range, connecting on 9-of-18 attempts. Furman also outrebounded the smaller Eagles 43-31 and limited Asbury to only 19.4 percent shooting in the second half. For the game Asbury made only 14-of-53 field goal attempts (26.4 percent).

"We decided to change our starting lineup tonight in favor of the players who played with the most intensity last Friday against Georgia (75-62 loss)," said Furman head coach Larry Davis. "We will reward intensity, and tonight I think that change got the attention of everybody on our team. I thought we played hard most of the game, and especially in the second half."

Leading 40-25 at intermission, Furman was never threatened in the second half, steadily building on its advantage with balanced scoring. All 12 players in uniform saw action and 10 scored for Furman. Maleye Ndoye collected nine rebounds and Da Luz added a game high six assists.

Furman returns to action next Monday when it takes on Campbell in Buies Creek N.C. Game time is 8:15.
