FURMAN ANNOUNCES 2001-02
BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
GREENVILLE -- Fifteen home games, including the revival of the Poinsettia Holiday Classic and earlier tipoff times, highlight Furman's 2001-02 men's basketball schedule, which was released today by Furman director of athletics Gary Clark.
The Paladins open the season on Nov. 16 against Georgia in Athens and play road games against Wisconsin on Dec. 15 and Saint Louis on Dec. 19 before returning home to host the Poinsettia Holiday Classic in Timmons Arena on Dec. 28-29. Furman will take on Macalester College from Minnesota in the first round of the four-team tournament, which also includes Yale and Gardner-Webb. This year's Poinsettia Holiday Classic marks the revival of a tournament that Furman last hosted during the 1979-80 season.
The Paladins open Southern Conference play on Jan. 2 against Georgia Southern in Greenville.
The 2001-02 Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 28-Mar. 3 in North Charleston, S.C.
Start times for the majority of Furman's home games this year are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., marking a change from the 7:30 p.m. starts utlized by the school in recent years.
Furman returns four starters and eight lettermen off last year's 10-16 team, including junior All-Southern Conference forward Karim Souchu.
