FURMAN'S WILLIE BROWN TO REDSHIRT

GREENVILLE -- Furman University men's basketball coach Larry Davis announced today that freshman guard Willie Brown will be redshirted for the 1999-00 basketball season

"Willie suffered a injury early in the pre-season which prevented him from practicing for three weeks," said Davis on Thursday. "Based on that we have determined that it is in Willie's best interest and in the best interest of our program for him to redshirt."

A product of nearby Berea High School, Brown was voted South Carolina AAA Player-of-the-Year and Mr. Basketball in South Carolina as a senior after averaging 17.6 ppg while leading Berea to a 26-6 record and state playoff appearance.
