GENERAL: Furman's
lone senior...will sit out the Paladins' first eight regular season games after
being suspended on Oct. 8 by head coach Larry Davis for violation of team rules...upon
his return figures to be a major factor in Furman's frontcourt at either power
forward or center...physical performer who possesses good quickness and solid
all-around offensive skills...excels at establishing position in the low post
but also commands respect out to the 3-point range...can also score off the
drive...proficient at drawing contact and getting to the free throw line...good
rebounder who will be counted on heavily for board work this year...bench pressed
340 pounds and recorded a squat of 500 pounds in spring testing...is Furman's
first junior college transfer since the 1978-79 season (Tobe Jackson).
AS A JUNIOR (1998-99): Fashioned a solid first season in a Paladin uniform,
leading Furman and finishing fifth in the Southern Conference in scoring (14.5
ppg)...ranked 10th in the league in rebounding (6.5 rpg)...also led the Paladins
in field goal percentage (52.0%)...led Furman in scoring in 12 games and in
rebounding in 10 contests...registered a pair of squad best 30-point outings
against Charleston Southern (88-85 win) and Wofford (90-83 loss)...work versus
Charleston Southern featured a 3x3 performance from 3-point range...outing against
Wofford included a season high 14 rebounds an 18x24 performance from the free
throw line, with the 18 free throws representing the fourth highest free throws
made total in Furman basketball history...converted a school record 14x14 free
throws as part of a 23-point effort against Duquesne (83-78 overtime win)...performance
against Duquesne helped him garner Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week honors...poured
in 25 points to lead Furman to a 79-67 win over William & Mary in Williamsburg....finished
second in the Southern Conference in free throws made (137), trailing only Appalachian
State's Marshall Phillips (138).
AS A SOPHOMORE (1997-98): Earned National Junior College All-America
third team honors after averaging 23.5 ppg and 13.2 rpg at Northeast Nebraska
Community College...helped lead his team to a 17-12 record and third place finish
in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IX Tournament...tallied
a career high 40 points in a win over Iowa Central...in all had four 30-point
plus performances at Northeast Nebraska CC...shot 60.1% from the field and connected
on 76.7% of his free throw opportunities...head coach at Northeast Nebraska
was Fred Johnson, Furman's current administrative assistant.
AS A FRESHMAN (1996-97): Played at Independence Community College in
Independence, Kansas...averaged 15.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg en route to earning all-conference
honors.
HIGH SCHOOL: 1995 graduate of Lenin Street N35 High School...played forward
under Cim Oleg.
PERSONAL: Full name is Stanislav Mikhail Makshantsev...son of Mikhail
and Lubove Makshantsev...born June 29, 1978, in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
