GENERAL: Solid athlete who
ranks alongside junior Marcus Dilligard as one of Furman's most experienced
players...excels as a defender on the perimeter and has emerged as a team leader...possesses
excellent physical strength and good overall quickness...bench pressed an impressive
315 pounds in spring testing...has shown solid improvement in ballhandling skills
over the past two seasons...sports an impressive work ethic and intensity...followed
Marcus Dilligard as the second signee of head coach Larry Davis, joining the
program prior to the start of the 1997-98 school year.
AS A SOPHOMORE (1998-99): Saw action in 27 games and earned starts in
three contests at second guard for an injured Bubba Smith...starts came against
Winthrop (60-59 loss), Georgia Southern in Statesboro (60-57 loss), and College
of Charleston in Greenville (81-68 loss)...scored a season high nine points
against Georgia Southern in Statesboro...tallied five points, including a key
3-pointer to help Furman to a 58-55 win over East Tennessee State in Johnson
City...also had five points against Clemson (67-54 loss)...registered five assists
and two steals (no turnovers) in 13 minutes of action in an 84-51 win over VMI
in Greenville...had a pair of assists and three steals in 10 minutes of work
against The Citadel in Greenville (69-47 win)...was one of only two players
(Bubba Smith) to tally more assists (23) than turnovers (16).
AS A FRESHMAN (1997-98): Registered playing time as a backup to starting
second guard Bubba Smith in 25 of Furman's 29 games...sustained a bruised clavicle
early in Furman's 64-54 loss to Chattanooga in Greenville in late January and
was sidelined for the next two games versus The Citadel and Appalachian State...later
returned to action but played sparingly in four of the Paladins' last seven
games, averaging only 4.5 minutes per game...best performance of the year came
in Furman's 70-61 win over Wofford in Greenville when, in 34 minutes of action,
he scored seven points, claimed six rebounds and garnered three assists...tallied
five points and claimed a pair of rebounds in a 71-62 loss to Clemson at Clemson...knocked
down 2x3 3-point attempts for six points in a 62-58 loss to Tennessee Tech at
the San Juan Shootout....scored four points and had four rebounds in a 79-52
loss to South Carolina in Greenville.
HIGH SCHOOL: 1997 graduate of Miami Senior High School...basketball coach
was Frank Martin...played the point and second guard positions...averaged 18.0
points per game and was named Miami Senior's Mr. Basketball, second team all-county,
and state all-tournament as a senior after helping his squad to a second straight
state championship...helped Miami Senior to a 30-8 record and state title his
junior year...also played football in high school...had 20 receptions for 400
yards as a senior.
