FURMAN BASKETBALL SIGNS FRENCH STANDOUT

TO NATIONAL LETTER-OF-INTENT

GREENVILLE -- Furman University head basketball coach Larry Davis announced today that the Paladins have signed Karim Souchu, a 6-foot-6 forward from Dijon, France, to a national letter of intent.

Souchu is the fifth recruit for Furman, which last month announced the signings of Willie Brown, a 5-foot-10 guard from Greenville, S.C., and Dusan Milicic, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward from Limestone, Tenn. Furman signed Kenny Ziegler, a 6-foot-5 forward from Lithonia, Ga. (Lithonia H.S.), and Darrell Arbaugh, a 6-foot-7 forward from Ashland, Ky. (Blazer H.S.), in November.

"Karim Souchu gives us another very athletic scorer to go along with Kenny Ziegler, and his addition will help us in many areas where we have been lacking the last two years," Davis said Monday afternoon. "He (Karim) is multi-position player who can play anything from shooting guard to power forward, and I really like the fact that he is a little older and has a junior championship under his belt. I believe winning promotes more winning."

Souchu earned team MVP honors after averaging 18.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game this year on a Dijon team that posted a 24-6 record and claimed a second straight Dijon junior league championship.

The following is the list of Furman's four men's basketball signees to date:

Kenny Ziegler (6-5, F, Lithonia, Ga., Lithonia High School)

Darrell Arbaugh (6-7, F, Ashland, Ky., Blazer High School)

Dusan Milicic (6-6, G/F, Limestone, Tenn., Washington College Academy)

Willie Brown (5-10, G, Greenville, S.C., Berea High School)

Karim Souchu (6-6, F, Dijon, France)
